About University Committees

An important branch of the ASSU, University Committees form a very powerful instrument for allowing students' voices to be heard at the administrative level. The Board of Trustees, the Academic Council, the Provost, the President, the Dean of the School of Humanities and Sciences, the Dean of Student Affairs, and the Chief Information Officer convene over 40 committees for yearlong terms to address a variety of issues affecting all walks of student life. Students nominated by the ASSU Nominations Commission to these committees work together with faculty and staff members to enhance the welfare of the Stanford community as a whole. Sitting as a member can therefore be a very rewarding experience and an excellent opportunity to voice your opinions and subsequently contribute to the community. YOUR IDEAS MATTER!!

Note: To serve on University Committees, students must be officially registered and on campus throughout their term. Because student input is so integral to the function of these Committees, Students who are appointed but are absent during their term (i.e. overseas study or other unforeseen circumstances) must agree to forfeit their position.
